What is a VPS server?
VPS (Virtual Private Server) is a virtual server located on a powerful physical server. Resources are at the user's disposal, so the client can independently decide which operating system to choose and how many resources assign to a particular machine.
A virtual server fully simulates the operation of a dedicated server using hardware virtualization, which divides the dedicated server into several virtual servers, or as they are called, VPS/VDS-servers, independent of each other.
What is the difference between VPS and VDS?
VPS (Virtual Private Server) and VDS (Virtual Dedicated Server) are both hosting solutions that provide users with their own virtual environments on a single physical server. They are used to run websites, applications, or other online services, but they differ in the way resources are allocated and the level of customization they offer.
A VPS is like an apartment in a building, where multiple users share the same server, but each has their own space and resources (RAM, CPU, storage). This makes it more affordable, but also means there might be limitations in customization and performance. VPS is suitable for small to medium-sized projects.
A VDS is like having your own house on a piece of land. Each user gets dedicated resources on the server, providing better performance and stability. This comes with a higher cost, but offers more customization and control over the virtual environment. VDS is ideal for larger projects or those with higher resource demands.
In short, the main difference between VPS and VDS lies in resource allocation and customization. VPS is a cost-effective solution for smaller projects, while VDS offers better performance and control for larger or more resource-intensive projects.
Why is VPS called a virtual server?
VPS (Virtual Private Server) is referred to as a virtual server because it uses virtualization technology to create multiple simulated environments on a single physical server. This is achieved by partitioning the server's hardware resources, such as CPU, RAM, and storage, into smaller segments and allocating them to each virtual environment.
The term "virtual" in this context means that the server appears and behaves like a separate physical server, even though it is actually a simulated environment within a shared physical machine. Each VPS runs its own operating system, applications, and services, functioning independently from other virtual servers on the same physical server.
What is included in the VPS rates?
Serverspace virtual server rental rates include:
- 24x7 technical support;
- access to all control panel tools;
- unlimited traffic;
- licenses for connecting to RDP-server (for Windows-based servers).
How do I change my virtual server rate?
The virtual server tariff plan can be changed in the control panel at any time. To do this, you will need to go to the server settings and change its configuration to the required values.
RAM and vCPU can be changed without losing data, it only requires restarting the server. Bandwidth scaling is done without stopping the server. Disk space can only be changed upwards.
How is the virtual server service charged?
With the Pay as you go model, there are no fixed charges. You only pay once every 10 minutes for the servers you use. For example, if you use a virtual machine for 30 minutes and delete it, you only pay for 30 minutes.
What OS can be preinstalled on VPS?
The following OS images are available in the Control Panel:
- Windows;
- FreeBSD;
- Debian;
- Ubuntu;
- CentOS;
- Oracle.
