FreeBSD 15, Fresh OS Options on VMware, and New 1-Click Apps Are Now Available in the Control Panel!
Serverspace has expanded its operating system library for VMware-based servers:
- FreeBSD 15
- FreeBSD 14
- Oracle Linux 8
FreeBSD 15
FreeBSD 15 is the latest release of FreeBSD, launched on December 2, 2025, designed for a stable, high-performance, and highly configurable server environment. The system is frequently chosen for its predictable behavior, advanced networking capabilities, and a high degree of control over the environment. The new version continues to build on these strengths while making FreeBSD more accessible for modern use cases.
Key updates:
- Base system management via pkg — FreeBSD 15 supports installing and updating the base system as a set of packages, and this approach is used by default for VM images and public clouds.
- Virtualization updates — bhyve and vmm now support arm64 and RISC-V, along with new capabilities for network scenarios and guest system management.
- Updated system components — the release includes new versions of LLVM, OpenZFS, OpenSSH, and OpenSSL.
- Improved compatibility with Linux applications — the Linuxulator now includes an implementation of inotify system calls.
- Optimizations for virtual environments — in Hyper-V, TLB flush is now performed via hypercalls, which can deliver a performance improvement of up to 40% in this scenario.
In addition to FreeBSD 15, two more operating systems are now available on VMware.
FreeBSD 14 — a stable branch for servers, network services, and infrastructure workloads.
Key highlights of this version:
- updated system components: OpenSSH, OpenSSL, and OpenZFS;
- added TPM and GPU passthrough support in the bhyve hypervisor;
- increased CPU core limits on amd64 and arm64;
- improved UFS filesystem handling and background checks;
- updated network components and virtualization tools.
Oracle Linux 8 — a server OS for enterprise applications where compatibility with enterprise environments, stable operation, and long-term support are essential.
Key features:
- added support for the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel for enterprise workloads;
- compatibility with the enterprise Linux ecosystem;
- separated BaseOS and AppStream repositories for system packages, programming languages, databases, and user applications;
- added DTrace tools for system diagnostics and performance analysis;
- enhanced support for stable operation in large-scale infrastructure and cloud environments.
Please note: The new operating systems are available on VMware-based servers.
New 1-Click Apps on vStack:
1. WireGuard — a modern VPN protocol for establishing secure connections.
Key capabilities:
- remote access to a server or internal services;
- setting up a private network between devices;
- secure connections between multiple servers;
- VPN for team or personal use.
2. FASTPANEL — a web-based hosting control panel.
Key features:
- website hosting and administration;
- domain and SSL certificate management;
- mailbox configuration;
- database and PHP version management;
- hosting management through a web interface.
3. MongoDB — a NoSQL database for projects that require a flexible data storage structure.
Use cases:
- web application and mobile service development;
- working with flexible or frequently changing data structures;
- storing user profiles, catalogs, and event data;
- processing heterogeneous data in IoT projects;
- developing and testing applications with a NoSQL database.
4. ClickHouse — a columnar database for analytics and fast queries over large volumes of data.
Typical use cases:
- analytics and reporting;
- log and event processing;
- product or infrastructure metrics analysis;
- time-series data processing;
- fast queries across large datasets.
How to get started:

- During the configuration step, select the desired solution under the "Applications" section.
- Complete the server creation process and start working with the new 1-Click Apps.
Who will benefit from this update
This update is ideal for users who need to quickly set up a server for a specific task:
- developers — for test environments, databases, and application services;
- DevOps engineers and system administrators — for server, network, and infrastructure scenarios;
- website owners — for managing hosting, domains, SSL certificates, and email;
- teams and businesses — for enterprise applications, analytics, VPN access, and internal services.
