What is NAT?
Network Address Translation (NAT) is a technique utilized by routers to convert a private IP address to a public IP address, and vice versa.
When a device on a private network initiates a connection to the Internet, the router that connects the device to the Internet utilizes NAT to translate the device's private IP address to a public IP address. This allows multiple devices on the private network to share a single public IP address, which is generally provided by an Internet Service Provider (ISP).
NAT acts as a security barrier for the internal network by making it challenging for external devices to establish connections with devices on the private network. This is achieved by only forwarding incoming traffic to a device on the private network if it was in response to a request that originated from that device.
NAT is commonly used in home networks, enterprise networks, and cloud computing.
What is Firewall?
A firewall is a security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on a set of predefined security rules. Firewalls are typically used to block unauthorized access to a network while allowing authorized communications to pass through.
