New OS templates: Ubuntu 22.04 and Oracle Linux 9

Cloud provider Serverspace has added two new OS templates from the family of Linux distributions: Ubuntu 22.04 and Oracle Linux 9. Now users can deploy a vStack virtual server with preinstalled images of popular operating systems. Both operating systems have received a number of changes aimed at improving performance, security and usability of the interface.

What's new in 22.04 LTS "Jammy Jellyfish"?

  • Updated GNOME 42 working environment, which includes enhanced desktop customization features.
  • Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) support out-of-the-box.
  • Updated versions of the standard applications and packages, including OpenSSL 3.0, Ruby 3.0, Python 3.10, PHP 8.1, GCC 11.2.0, MySQL 8.0.28, PostgreSQL 14.2, Mozilla Firefox 99.0, Golang 1.18, LibreOffice 7.3, PulseAudio 16 etc.
  • Performance optimization, which makes it possible to run a Raspberry Pi with 2 GB of RAM.

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS has received five years of core support until April 2027. The full list of changes to Ubuntu 22.04 can be found on the official website.

What's new in Oracle Linux 9?

  • Improved support for Aarch64 architecture.
  • Enhanced capabilities of the Btrfs file system.
  • Improved Oracle Cluster File System.
  • Added a ZoneFS file system.
  • Added support for Multipath TCP.
  • Stabilized support for the WireGuard VPN protocol.
  • Added SCHED_CORE task scheduling mode, which allows to choose which processes can be shared on one CPU core.
